Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about PocketHog.
What is PocketHog?
PocketHog is a native iOS app for monitoring all your PostHog projects from your iPhone. It shows every project on one screen with visitor counts, trend charts, and conversion metrics — plus home screen widgets that display live metrics without opening the app. Built for builders who ship multiple apps and want a quick daily pulse check. It connects using a Personal API key and supports US Cloud, EU Cloud, and self-hosted PostHog instances.
Is there a PostHog mobile app?
PostHog does not have an official mobile app. PocketHog is an independent third-party iOS companion that brings your PostHog analytics to your iPhone with a mobile-first interface and home screen widgets.
Does PostHog have an iPhone widget?
Not natively. PocketHog adds configurable iOS home screen widgets (small and medium sizes) that display live PostHog metrics — including visitor counts, conversion events, and trend direction — per project, updating automatically in the background.
How do I connect PocketHog to my PostHog account?
PocketHog connects using your PostHog Personal API key (starts with phx_). Go to your PostHog account → Settings → Personal API Keys and create a new key. Enable these scopes: project (read), query (read), and event_definition (read). Optionally enable annotation (read/write) if you want to view and create chart annotations. Then paste the key into PocketHog and select your region (US Cloud, EU Cloud, or self-hosted).
What API key scopes does PocketHog need?
PocketHog requires a Personal API key (not a Project API key) with these scopes: project (read), query (read), and event_definition (read). For annotation support, also enable annotation (read) and annotation (write). Project API keys (used for event ingestion) will not work — you need a Personal API key from Settings → Personal API Keys in PostHog.
Does PocketHog work with self-hosted PostHog?
Yes. During onboarding you can enter a custom host URL to connect PocketHog to any self-hosted PostHog instance.
Is PocketHog affiliated with PostHog?
No. PocketHog is an independent third-party application and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by PostHog, Inc. It uses PostHog's public API on your behalf.
What PostHog data can I see in PocketHog?
PocketHog displays unique visitor counts, trend charts across 4-week, 3-month, 6-month, and 12-month windows, a secondary conversion metric of your choice (any PostHog event), chart annotations, and event definitions — across all your PostHog projects.
How is PocketHog different from MiniHog?
PocketHog offers several features not available in MiniHog: native iOS home screen widgets, chart annotation overlays, PostHog Max AI deep linking, self-hosted instance support, and per-project conversion event tracking with smart suggestions.
What is the difference between PocketHog and HogPocket?
PocketHog and HogPocket take different approaches. HogPocket is a full-featured PostHog client — it offers HogQL queries, funnel analysis, session replays, and retention cohorts for deep analysis of a single project. PocketHog is a multi-project overview — it shows all your projects on one screen with widgets, sparklines, and conversion tracking. Choose HogPocket if you want to replace PostHog's web UI on mobile. Choose PocketHog if you have multiple projects and want a quick daily pulse check.
Which PostHog mobile app is best for multiple projects?
PocketHog is the only PostHog mobile app designed around multi-project monitoring. Its home screen shows all your projects in a single scrollable feed with visitor counts, trend charts, and conversion metrics for each. Other apps like HogPocket and MiniHog support project switching, but their UX is oriented around one project at a time.
Can I monitor multiple PostHog projects on my phone?
Yes. PocketHog shows all your PostHog projects in a single scrollable feed. Each project card displays visitor counts, a sparkline trend chart, period-over-period deltas, and a conversion metric of your choice. You can also add a separate home screen widget for each project. No other PostHog mobile app offers this multi-project overview as its primary screen.
Does PocketHog store my PostHog API key securely?
Yes. Your PostHog Personal API key is stored exclusively in the iOS Keychain, the most secure local storage available on iPhone. It is never transmitted to PocketHog's servers — it is used only to communicate directly with your PostHog instance.
Does PocketHog collect any of my PostHog data?
No. PocketHog retrieves your PostHog data and displays it on your device. Your analytics data is never transmitted to PocketHog's servers. The only data PocketHog collects is anonymous usage analytics (screens viewed, features used) to improve the app.
What is the best way to monitor PostHog metrics on mobile?
PocketHog is currently the most fully-featured iOS client for PostHog, offering a multi-project feed, home screen widgets, conversion tracking, and annotation overlays — making it the best option for founders, PMs, and growth teams who want to monitor PostHog on their iPhone.
Can I track multiple PostHog projects in PocketHog?
Yes. PocketHog displays all your PostHog projects in a single scrollable feed. You can reorder projects, customize display names, and add a separate home screen widget for each project.
Does PocketHog support EU Cloud PostHog?
