Privacy Policy

PocketHog ("we," "our," or "us") is a third-party iOS client for PostHog Analytics, developed independently and not affiliated with PostHog, Inc. This policy explains what data PocketHog collects, stores, and transmits.

1. Data You Provide

PostHog API Key and Connection Settings

When you connect PocketHog to your PostHog account, your Personal API key, region selection (US Cloud, EU Cloud, or self-hosted), and any custom host URL are stored exclusively in your device's Keychain using the iOS Keychain Services API. This data never leaves your device except to authenticate directly with your PostHog instance.

Project Configuration

Your project display names, conversion event selections, display order preferences, and widget settings are stored locally in an App Group container shared between PocketHog and its iOS widget extension. This data is not transmitted to us.

2. Data We Collect Automatically

In-App Analytics

PocketHog uses a lightweight custom analytics implementation to collect anonymized usage events (such as screens viewed and features used). These events are sent to PostHog's infrastructure using a separate analytics key. A randomly generated anonymous identifier (analytics_distinct_id) is created on first launch and stored in UserDefaults. This identifier is not linked to your name, email, or PostHog account.

We collect analytics to understand how the app is used and to improve it. We do not sell this data or use it for advertising.

Error Information

In some cases, technical error descriptions may be included as properties of analytics events. These strings are generated by iOS and typically describe network or API errors. We do not intentionally collect personal information through error reporting.

3. Data Transmitted to PostHog (Your Instance)

PocketHog makes authenticated API requests to your PostHog instance on your behalf to retrieve project data, metrics, event definitions, and annotations. This communication is between your device and your PostHog instance directly. We do not proxy, intercept, or store the contents of these requests.

Your use of PostHog's services is governed by PostHog's own Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.

4. Widget Data

To power Home Screen widgets, PocketHog caches project metrics (including visitor counts, delta percentages, sparkline data, and conversion metrics) in a shared App Group container on your device. This cache refreshes approximately every 30 minutes and is stored only on your device.

5. Data We Do Not Collect

We do not collect:

  • Your name, email address, or any account information
  • Your PostHog project data or business metrics
  • Location data
  • Device identifiers beyond the anonymous analytics ID generated at first launch
  • Any data through third-party SDKs (none are used)

6. Data Retention and Deletion

All data PocketHog stores is local to your device. Deleting the app removes all locally stored data, including your API key from the Keychain and all cached project data. Your anonymous analytics ID will no longer be associated with future events after deletion.

7. Children's Privacy

PocketHog is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from children.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy. The effective date at the top of this document will reflect the most recent revision.
